How Many iPads Should You Have Per Location?

Learn how to determine the ideal number of iPads for your dental or oral surgery practice.

Updated over a year ago

When deciding how many iPads to use in your practice, two common approaches work well depending on your workflow. Here’s a guide to help you choose, along with device recommendations to save on costs.

Option 1: One iPad Per Operatory

This approach ensures every operatory is equipped with its own iPad for seamless use.

Example:

  • Location A: 9 operatories → 9 iPads

  • Location B: 6 operatories → 6 iPads

Best for practices that prefer devices to stay in the room.

Option 2: One iPad Per Assistant

Each assistant uses their own iPad throughout the day. This can be a great fit if your staff frequently move between rooms.

Example:

  • Location A: 4 assistants working simultaneously → 4 iPads

  • Location B: 3 assistants working simultaneously → 3 iPads

Best for practices that prioritize individual workflows and minimize device sharing.
